While there are many benefits as a result
of biotech research, there are ethical issues that need to be taken
into consideration. Ethical Issues in Biotechnology include:
- Federal regulation of drugs/devices/therapies
- Patient confidentiality (discrimination by employers, insurance
companies)
- Informed consent of patient(s) prior to undergoing experimental
procedure(s)
- Human reproductive cloning
- Compassionate use of experimental therapies for those having
no other treatment options
- Release of genetically modified organisms
- Labeling of genetically modified foods
